comparison DA7217 vs DA7218

Hello,

In the feature set for DA7217 is says:
"The headphone amplifier can be run directly from the supply, thus eliminating the need for charge pump capacitors"

Both DA7217 and DA7218 can turn the charge pump off, is it possible to run the amplifier directly from supply also on the DA7218?

It would be very nice to have an comparison chart between different codecs, making it easier to select.

Hello Sanner,

Hello Sanner,

I spoke to the Audio application team about your question, they don’t think it will be easy to run the amplifier directly from the supply; you will need to generate a negative and positive supply. The single ended headphone amplifier relies on being ground centred

List of the differences:

DA7217 has differential headphone outputs whilst DA7218 has single ended headphone outputs.

DA7218 has jack detect whilst DA7217 does not.

DA7217 can run from an external supply (single supply mode), DA7218 cannot.

DA7218 has an HP_SENSE pin to minimise common mode noise.  DA7217 doesn't need this as the outputs are true differential

Kind regards,

Hello Elliot,

Hello Elliot,

What is then the use of the "singel supply mode" on DA7218, according to data sheet B.4.1?

Hi sanner,

Hi sanner,

This mode is only valid for the DA7217 and not the DA7218. This section will be removed from the datasheet.

kind regards,
